The best way to concretize the definition of an API is to examine the hardware and software elements it must comprise, and how they fit together to form an operational whole.
Regardless of whether the – controller is compact (monobloc), modular (i.e. made up of functional modules in boxes that can be plugged into a specific chassis, or as boards to be mounted in standard racks (19" rack) – it includes the elements detailed below.
