Assistive robotics: design and control for autonomy in a power wheelchair

Technical aids are essential tools that can provide physical, psychological, cognitive, sensory or social assistance to people with disabilities. The World Health Organization (WHO) has estimated that one person in three, or more than 2.5 billion people worldwide, requires at least one technical aid . In this context, assistive robotics is developing and aims to become an integral part of rehabilitation processes. The users of these devices are users in the broadest sense of the term, i.e. people with disabilities, their families and friends, nursing staff, doctors (who are the prescribers), therapists, carers, etc.
