3.1 Genomics in the Age of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence

With the advent of NGS, the volume of data generated has exploded and is on track to double every two years. According to the research firm IDC (International Data Corporation), the world’s leading consulting and research group for information technology markets, the global volume of data was estimated at 163 zettabytes in 2025; it is reported to have already reached 180 zettabytes (180 × 1021 bytes), demonstrating a dramatic increase.
