A biocidal fabric is a fabric that destroys, kills or repels undesirable living organisms: microbes, bacteria, molds, microscopic fungi, yeasts, viruses, mites, mosquitoes, lice, moths...

The concept of biocidal fabrics is often thought to have been invented only a few years ago. In reality, while most technologies are recent, the concept is at least a century old: during the First World War, soldiers who spent their days in the mud of the trenches saw their cotton or natural-fibre clothing mildew, and the first trials of fabrics treated against mildew date back at least to this period.
