3. IGRT equipment: technical and physical principles
IGRT uses a wide range of equipment. They produce the images required by radiotherapists, thanks to the coupling of an emitting source and its ad hoc target. Today, computers play a major role in IGRT, either in the process of acquiring information on patient positioning, or in the analysis of the information gathered, with the aim of issuing readjustment instructions.
The detectors used are of different types, using different physical principles. Detectors must be rigorously calibrated, and image distortions and artifacts must be taken into account in the IGRT process.
