Specific activity; activité spécifique
Ratio of the activity of a radioactive substance per unit mass.
Capture électronique (CE); electron capture (EC)
Process during which the nucleus of a radioactive atom absorbs an electron from its valence shell. This is accompanied by the conversion of a proton in the nucleus into a neutron, followed by the emission of γ, X or Auger electrons.
Brachytherapy; curietherapy
A radiotherapy technique in which a sealed radioactive source is placed directly in contact with the cancerous tumor to be treated. After a specific time, determined by the characteristics of the tumor and the patient, the radioactive source is removed.
