5. Joining materials and products
Although the greatest care is taken in the manufacture of these products, no matter how resistant they may be, their primary quality remains watertightness. Under no circumstances should they compensate for faulty installation or fixing of pipes or appliances.
5.1 Mortars
The clay used as tamping for underground drains falls into the category of jointing products. Cement mortars are most often used, as they are suitable for joining cement, reinforced concrete or cast-iron pipes and structures. Although mechanically resistant, these mortars can be fragile and chemically sensitive.
Toilet bowls and black water downpipes are sealed with a very fine, very tight, quick-setting cement mortar.
