4. Justification of shallow foundations
4.1 Preamble
The new NFP 94-261 regulation is to be applied in the case of shallow foundations. These refer to Eurocode 8 Part 5 for verification in seismic zones. The Eurocode now allows envelope curves to be calculated directly from seismic forces, and has the advantage of taking account of soil inertia forces.
4.2 Load-bearing capacity in accordance with EN 1998-5 [Annex F].
The load-bearing capacity of a soil is the stress it can withstand before shear failure.
