5. Numerical modeling in rock mechanics
Examples of rock slope stability calculations and tunnel section dimensioning have shown that the methods used in these calculations at the scale of a rock mass require the consideration of a number of simplifying assumptions, which are sometimes very limiting. Numerical modelling is the approach that best takes into account the complexity of the reality of the material, whatever the scale involved, and of the structure or project being studied.
