2. Manufacturing
The sole constituent of natural hydraulic lime is a
limestone containing 15-20% silica and alumina, as well as a varying
percentage of iron.
Limestone is extracted from underground or open-cast
quarries (see figure
2
). The resulting blocks are crushed in primary crushers, then screened.
The finest elements are generally discarded to avoid clogging the
straight kilns. The stones are graded according to the kiln of destination
(mixed or natural gas) (see figure
3
).
