2.1 Logic and effects of capacity sizing
To prevent plastic deformation, brittle fracture or instability failure outside the dissipative zones, the elements adjacent to each dissipative zone must be dimensioned so that their strength is not exhausted before the plastic mechanism can develop.
This concept is known as "capacitive dimensioning".
