We now briefly describe the various terracotta products. Their use is described in various articles in Techniques de l'Ingénieur (see "Pour en savoir plus") and will not be repeated here. In France, there are three main types of terracotta products: exposed bricks, wall bricks and roof tiles.
Exposed bricks, both solid and perforated, take the form of a rectangular parallelepiped, easy to grip with one hand, with dimensions of approximately 6 x 10.5 x 22 cm. Mass generally varies from 1.8 to 2.5 kg (figure 7). 22 x 22 cm blocks are also available. Perforations reduce weight and cost, and facilitate drying.
