Diagnosis is research aimed at understanding and taking action, by identifying the reasons behind a situation and the actions to be taken, considering both cause and effect. It differs from an audit, which is an a posteriori control according to a predefined reference framework.
Energy diagnostics, which are a prerequisite for retrofitting, involve 3 stages:
assessing the energy performance of existing buildings ;
identification and evaluation of possible rehabilitation actions ;
