Before applying a protective coating to a concrete surface, a few precautions must be taken.

Moisture content must be less (by mass) than 5%. This moisture releases the cement's alkalinity, and saponification risks are incurred when applying greasy products (alkyd and glycerophtalic paints), and to a lesser degree with polyvinyl acetate paints.

Painting work must comply with the rules of the trade: DTU 59-1 for paints and thin films, and DTU 59-2 for thick plastic coatings (RPE).

This implies that the substrate must be prepared to be sound and consistent. The following operations are necessary: stripping, brushing, sanding, dusting, sanding, etc.
