2. Service life. Definitions
Sustainability implies a quality objective that guides the design of the structure, the material and its application.
Service life is defined as the duration of service without special initial precautions (such as cathodic protection, for example), without specialized maintenance, and without major repairs to the shell or structure. It therefore corresponds to normal operation and routine maintenance for a given level of service, which may also involve aesthetic considerations (cleanliness of facings, for example).
