This second article begins with the description and modeling of form instabilities — local warping, buckling, tilting, etc. — which prevent certain bent components from fully mobilizing their elastic or plastic resistances. The criteria needed to avoid these modes of failure, such as those of EC 3-DAN, must be based on a large number of test results, since the occurrence of form instability depends very much on the level of geometric imperfections introduced into components during their manufacture.
When dimensioning a beam, it is essential to ensure that all risks of disorder are eliminated, by applying the appropriate criteria of EC 3-DAN.
