Acoustic correction of premises is sometimes useful, or even necessary or compulsory, to limit the phenomena of reverberation, which can be very uncomfortable (communal corridors, school canteens, gymnasiums, etc.). This applies in particular to the common areas of buildings, to preserve the acoustic comfort of apartments by attenuating the noise of footsteps and voices, especially at night.

The absorbing power of sound-reflecting interior walls can be enhanced by using absorbent materials to reduce reverberation time. These absorbent materials can include mineral wools, fleece textiles, felt, openwork wood or plaster panels, flexible, non-reverberant floor coverings, etc.
