The term "mur-rideau" (curtain wall) was actually coined in France around 1936 by the architects Beaudoin and Lods and the great French engineer Jean Prouvé, to design the metal facades of the Rolland Garros club in Buc and the multi-purpose covered market in Clichy. This technique was particularly developed after the Second World War, thanks to the industrialization techniques perfected by Jean Prouvé. The aim was to manufacture and install finished elements industrially in factories.

For many years, therefore, this technique was reserved for relatively large and capable companies.
