Tests to determine the mobilizable heat of combustion

In order to determine the mobilizable heat of combustion, the following sequence must be carried out:

• Measurement of the gross calorific value PCS₁ (MJ/kg) of the material concerned. The density of the material ρ₁ in kg/m³ is supplied by the test applicant.

• Carrying out a test according to the standardized thermal program for 1/2 h, on a specimen of dimensions 0.30 × 0.40 (m) and thickness e₀ (m). This thickness e₀ is determined by the laboratory on the applicant's proposal. It takes into account the nature of the material and the different thicknesses used. It is chosen so that the residual thickness e₃ is at least 5 mm, or so that the formula in point 4 can be applied.

• After 1/2 h exposure, extinguish rapidly with CO₂ and cool the test tube.
