Pavement skid resistance changes over time under the influence of traffic and climate. Knowing this evolution in advance makes it possible to :
monitor the condition of infrastructure (roads, tracks) and plan maintenance;
guarantee performance and optimize the use of materials.
The evolution of a pavement's skid resistance is linked to three main mechanisms:
wear caused by friction between the tire and the road surface. Polishing is a consequence of this wear;
ageing of the material due to climatic conditions (temperature variations, action of oxygen in the air, acid rain, etc.);
