The oldest technique, "hand demolition" is still used today. It remains the fruit of the experience acquired by skilled craftsmen who possess a real empirical knowledge of the structures to be demolished.
The main buildings concerned are made of the following materials:
millstone, rubble stone or ashlar for vertical walls;
wooden joists, sometimes reinforced with metal beams (figure

);
filler troughs between joists ;
plaster partitions reinforced with planks.
