4. Designing an architecture
We're interested here in the process that leads from an understanding of the opportunity before us, to one or more architectural proposals (i.e. an orientation) for a possible and plausible future.
4.1 Understanding the opportunity
Architecture doesn't develop out of the ground or ex nihilo. It is part of a context with multiple dimensions and multiple interactions, and aims to achieve objectives that are not always obvious or clearly established. While there may be similarities and shared principles from one architecture to the next, each architecture represents a singular undertaking, a singular adventure. Understanding and being able to define the contours of this singularity is paramount in any architectural design process.
