2. Optical imaging in scattering media
An object (e.g. a tumor) is characterized by its absorption (α),
and scattering (µ) coefficients – both expressed in cm
–1
– which contain information on constituents and structure respectively.
These parameters are generally different from the surrounding medium,
hence the possibility of detecting contrast.
DOT consists to implement an array of laser sources/detectors
around the medium, the lasers being used either in a pulsed or a continuous
mode (figure

). An optical flux is then recorded
from the various light emission/reception pairs, and an inverse problem...
