4. Modeling sun position and sky types

4.1 Sun position

The sun's position on the celestial vault depends on latitude, day of the year and time of day. Its position is characterized by the sun's azimuth (angle to the south) and height (angle to the horizon) – see figure 15 .

For a latitude LAT, the solar height H is defined by :

sin(H)=sin(LAT).sin(d)+cos(LAT).cos(d).cos(AH)
