7. Polarization attraction coupled with all-optical intensity regeneration
Pulses propagating in fiber-optic telecommunication systems undergo various distortions due to the accumulation of linear and non-linear propagative effects. These distortions mainly result in fluctuations in the intensity of the pulses representing the "1s", and in the appearance of so-called "ghost pulses" at the "0s". What's more, the polarization state of light at the output of a transmission fiber varies randomly, according to local variations in temperature and stress. There is therefore a real interest in designing systems that can regenerate both the polarization and the intensity profile of pulses.
