2. Calculated holograms
Like optically recorded holograms, computer-calculated holograms aim to record and reconstruct a complex wavefront (amplitude and phase). Whereas for an optically recorded hologram, the object or wavefront to be recorded must physically exist, for a computed hologram the wavefront is entirely computed. Computed holography therefore benefits from the flexibility and versatility of computer calculation, without the need for a complex and delicate physical recording process. Calculated hologram terminology has evolved over the years, originally using the terms computer-calculated hologram (CCH) or computer-synthesized hologram (CSH).
