3. Evaporator power supply
Whatever the refrigeration distribution method, the evaporator can be supplied with refrigerant by direct injection or liquid, thus flooding the exchanger. There are two configurations of the "flooded" exchanger: regorgement or recirculation.
With direct injection, the refrigerant is introduced directly into the evaporator after the expansion valve. It then contains a certain proportion of vapor (generally between 15 and 20% by mass, depending on the compression ratio). In the evaporator, it is completely evaporated and superheated, so that no liquid refrigerant remains at the compressor intake. If this were not the case, liquid hammering could occur (§
