Because of its multidisciplinary nature (radiation physics, materials science) and specific service conditions, the field of radiation protection concretes appears more complex to master than that of ordinary civil engineering concretes. More than for any other material, anticipation and upstream thinking are the key to dimensioning, implementation and achieving instant (mechanical, radiation protection) or delayed (durability) performance. The diversity of constituents and the effectiveness of additives mean that most applications can be covered.
