2. Fire protection objectives
Fire protection for nuclear power plants has a threefold objective: to guarantee the integrity of safety functions, to ensure the safety of people and to limit damage to equipment that could lead to long-term downtime.
These objectives are achieved, for the most part, through provisions to be taken during plant design, but they also involve provisions applicable to unit operation.
2.1 Integrity of safety systems
