Boiling water reactors

With the revival of the nuclear industry, numerous BWR power plant projects are under development and design studies, orders have been placed, safety authorities are examining them, or they are under construction. These new reactor models feature a standardized design and improved safety features, including greater resistance to severe accidents (earthquake, airliner crash, loss of primary coolant, up to the hypothetical case of core meltdown), higher availability, better adaptation to operators' needs, reduced costs and lead times, lower operating costs and a longer lifespan (up to 60 years) than their predecessors.

Several models incorporate passive safety devices (ESBWR, KERENA).
