Laminar diffusion flame

Two ideal generic situations have been identified, depending on the procedure used to introduce the reagents into the flame zone:

• premixed flames: reagents are mixed before the reaction zone;

• non-premixed flames, or diffusion flames, where the reagents are introduced separately into the reaction zone, on either side of the flame. They are then essentially carried locally into the reaction zone by molecular diffusion.
