The appearance of the first synthetic insulating materials in France in 1962 led to the development of materials that simultaneously provide insulation and protection:
polyvinyl chloride (PVC) ;
chlorosulfonated polyethylene (Hypalon) ;
cross-linked polyethylene (PR).
