1. Installation of low-voltage surge arresters

The term "surge arrester" is generally used to refer to low-voltage (LV) surge arresters, as these are the most numerous in installations. Surge arresters for other networks are named according to their use, such as high-voltage or telecom surge arresters. In English, a high-voltage arrester is called a "surge arrester", while a low-voltage arrester is called a "surge protective device". It should be noted that old terms such as "parasurtenseur" or "parasurtension" are used in everyday language to separate the equipotentiality function from the protection function. These practices are not standardized. These devices are all surge arresters, and there are also surge arresters that perform both protection and equipotentiality functions.
