Fuse technology is relatively simple, but there are a number of disadvantages to their use, which we will come back to later:

• a limited voltage range (MV and LV) ;

• an intrinsic fragility and sometimes complex support systems;

• sometimes delicate coordination between levels of protection;

• the need for replacement after operation ;

• risk of overvoltage due to the LdI/dt effect, with L equal to the source circuit inductance.
