Maintenance includes all work required to maintain the electrical and mechanical characteristics of the structures at a level close to their initial performance.
When the cost of maintenance becomes prohibitive, it's time to consider renewing the structure.
Maintenance can be preventive or curative. The aim of the maintenance policy is to find the right compromise between too much maintenance, which is costly, and too little maintenance, which leads to defects and premature renewal.
The choice of maintenance actions is complex, because the maintenance cycle for equipment is such that it is difficult to identify a clear relationship between actions and results.
