3. Organic fluids
Organic heat transfer fluids can be divided into three categories:
mineral oils or hydrocarbons of petroleum origin;
synthetic oils, mainly aromatics and silicones;
halogenated fluids such as PFC (perfluorocarbon), PFPE (perfluoropolyether) or, more recently, HFE (hydrofluoroether).
3.1 Mineral oils
Mineral oils extracted from different regions of the globe vary widely in composition. They can be classified according to their main constituents:
paraffinic crude oils (saturated, linear or branched carbon chains);
aromatic crude oils (with benzene rings)...
