The Environmental Code (Art. L. 541-1-1) defines reuse as "any operation whereby substances, materials, or products that are not waste are used again for a purpose identical to that for which they were designed."

Reuse can mean three different things, both for the manufacturer marketing the product and for the consumer.

• Reuse of pre-packaged products in reusable packaging

  The product is marketed in reusable packaging that consumers must return to a collection point. The packaging is washed and returned to the packaging line. Deposit or reward systems are generally associated with this type of reuse to encourage consumers to return the packaging.
