A fuel cell cannot operate on its own; it must be combined with auxiliary components that perform essential functions such as delivering reactants, removing products, or managing the stack temperature. While these auxiliary components are necessary for the fuel cell’s operation, they are nonetheless energy consumers that directly interfere with the fuel cell’s power output.
