3. Conclusion
In the context of green chemistry, the development of reaction
media with low environmental impact is essential. Considerable progress
has been made over the past fifteen years, but there is still a long
way to go, as the solutions proposed (where they exist) are not always
economically viable. In particular, the replacement of several ranges
of solvents remains problematic. These include high-boiling aromatic
mixtures such as SolvessoTM or Solvarex, for which there
is currently no realistic alternative. Indeed, these low-polarity
solvents widely used in formulations (paints, coatings...) have no
equivalent in nature, and their very low cost imposes the use of a
very inexpensive raw material. Replacing them will certainly require
a complete paradigm shift, as no similar alternative structure is
currently envisaged. Another problem area concerns polar aprotic solvents.
