Biological soil treatments

Phytoremediation employs plants which, generally in association with rhizosphere micro-organisms, eliminate, degrade or fix contaminants in soil or water.

Among the mechanisms of action of plants against pollution, we distinguish :

• rhizofiltration: absorption of contaminants by roots;

• phytoextraction: absorption and concentration of pollutants throughout the plant;

• phytotransformation: absorption and degradation of pollutants;

• phytostabilization: reducing the bioaccessibility of metal compounds by precipitating them through the action of root exudates;
