Detecting explosives requires taking into account all the families of energetic compounds and being able to detect and quantify them. The most common families of explosives are :
— nitroaromatics (figure

) such as 1,3,5-trinitrotoluene (TNT), picric acid, 1,3,5-triamino-2,4,6-trinitrobenzene (TATB) or hexanitrostilbene (HNS);
— nitramines (figure
