The development of OHT, aimed, among other things, at disposing of highly toxic liquid organic waste, began in France as early as the 1990s. For this type of waste, destruction techniques must ensure complete containment of the reaction and full control over the waste. This is particularly true for organic solvents contaminated with radioactive elements from the nuclear industry. This category of waste led to innovative technological developments by the French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA).
