3. Measuring and controlling industrial pollution
Accurate knowledge of pollutant production is essential, not only to assess inputs to the natural environment and assess the impact of pollution on the quality of the receiving environment, but also to ensure control and better management of the pollution emitted within the plant and, above all, to design, size and better operate the treatment facilities that will enable industrial wastewater to be depolluted within the framework of the regulatory provisions governing discharge conditions.
To achieve these objectives, the measurement of discharge characteristics and the quantitative assessment of pollution require :
taking a representative sample of the wastewater in question;
determination of the concentration (expressed in mg/L) of the pollutant(s) present in the water under consideration,...
