2. Classification of impact factors
During the course of an LCA, a material-energy balance is drawn up for each life-cycle sub-system. This inventory provides a large amount of data that is generally impossible to manage as such. The aim of classification is to group these flows together in order to facilitate their quantification.
When developing such a classification system, the problem arises of choosing which environmental impacts to take into account. At least three criteria need to be considered:
