How to navigate the commercial dialectic? Most product suppliers talk about odor neutralization, precipitation or even odor destruction. But on the one hand, it's hard to imagine a product being effective on every type of odor, or on all families of odor compounds, and on the other, the type of neutralization is not always specified. Is it physico-chemical neutralization? Or olfactory neutralization? Or worse, is it simply masking?
A neutralizer in the physico-chemical sense reduces the concentration of an odorous compound, a neutralizer in the olfactory sense reduces the number of odor units (see § ), while a masking agent is made up solely of pleasant-smelling compounds (lemon, strawberry, etc.) which are intended to outweigh the unpleasant odor.
