5. Something new in the air: airborne microbial diversity in enclosed spaces
Numerous culture-based studies in indoor environments have shown that significant bacterial and fungal levels are present in a priori innocuous places such as offices, residential homes and schools (Table 3). Data on the cultivable bacterial and fungal load of enclosed spaces show concentrations of between 10 and 104 UFC · m-3. Maximum concentrations being measured in dwellings and in a metro.
