In conclusion, programmed obsolescence is a complex, multidimensional phenomenon that affects our consumer society. It differs from natural obsolescence, which can be seen as an indicator of technological progress and even a factor of innovation. Although programmed obsolescence was initially conceived as a solution to stimulate the economy, it is now seen as a major problem, both environmentally and financially.

Survey results from students at INSA Toulouse and ENSIL-ENSCI indicate a good general understanding of programmed obsolescence, but also some confusion with the concept of obsolescence in general. In addition, a lack of knowledge of the legislation surrounding programmed obsolescence was highlighted, as well as a general feeling that current sanctions are not sufficiently dissuasive.
