1. Introduction and definition

The term "APT" (Advanced Persistent Threat) has no real equivalent in the French language. It is possible to speak of "targeted attacks", but this term seems incomplete for describing the phenomenon, as we shall see in this chapter.

This acronym appeared in 2006, used by the US Air Force to describe "specific types of adversaries, exploits, and targets used for strategic data collection purposes".

This definition is interesting, because it mentions opponents, IT aspects and a goal. However, it doesn't seem complete to a number of experts in the field, who have come up with other versions, based on real-life experience or particular marketing needs.

It therefore seems useful here to break down the concepts contained in this acronym, one by one.
