A carcinogen is a substance or mixture that can cause cancer or increase its incidence.

A mutagen is a substance or mixture that can produce hereditary genetic defects or increase their frequency.

A reproductive toxicant is a substance or mixture that may produce or increase the frequency of non-heritable adverse effects in the offspring, or impair reproductive functions or capacity.

There are three categories of CMRs in the CLP Regulation EC No. 1272/2008:
