4.1 Presentation of the Texas City accident: UVCE in an isomerization unit
On March 23, 2005, overfilling of a separation column in the isomerization unit (figure 18 ) at the Texas City refinery led to the release of around 18,800 kg of a C5-C6 cut (Pentane – Hexane), which evaporated to form a cloud of flammable gas. The gas cloud, with a footprint of 18,600 m 2 and a maximum length of 200 m, dispersed and partially covered the unit, as shown in figure
